__I would like to find us our uniforms__. So, what do you Flatland people imagine us to wear, look like: White, red, blue, dark, etc. jumpsuits, overalls? Military, worker feeling or rather a clean, sterile Impression? Should we be wearing it full time - having a couple of those each, or should we just wear them for the public? Comments and ideas please!

hello from copenhagen! hmm... uniforms: Maybe, if, each of us have specific jobs to take care of inside the flatland, we will have suits that fits to our jobs.. All different then.. The person in charge of the web cams could be highly technical, and you maria,, could wear a special yoga suit etc. But then we'll need to find out if there are specific jobs for everyone....
Whether uniforms are all the same or different I think we should wear these "uniforms" all the time (so their should be comfortable to wear) . To undress when the sculpture center is closed seems like a weird theater. I think we will have some interesting time alone/together sitting in this big construction, inside a big empty space.... all dressed up. scary! And if webcams are on,,the public will all the time be watching. I am 178 centimeters tall,, size Large

I think it would be nice to have a comfortable base uniform that starts out everyone the same, and then it all gets modified immediately to fit the job, personality, and statement of the Flatian (that's you). I sent Maria an image and it is below.

Before we get too set on anything, I think we should give Maria a week or so to come up some ideas. She wrote me a couple of days ago: Maria:"I will be happy to start working on the uniforms/costumes. And as soon as I have a few ideas together we can put it up on wiki.
I will leave on tuesday for L.A. for a week. It is more likely that I will have gathered enough proposals together after my return (3.21.)."
I do think we should have two outfits, so one can be at the cleaners.

As soon as we have agreed on which uniforms to get (2 for each sounds good) I will offer to modify them for you (designing, sewing). Just give me a few weeks...
I think it would be for hygenic reasons better to also just wear socks (with non-slippery surface?), or light slippers inside Flatland. And for it to look cool we should all wear the same ones.

maybe the uniforms should have big front and back pockets on the chest, so we can easily carry things up and down the ladder.

Thanks Doug for your ideas! Pockets on the uniform will definitely be important. I was looking at two types today (for a start). I personally prefer the red one over the bright orange. It's cheap: $ 22. More soon...

Ok. I need everbody's size as soon as possible! It ranges from 38-52, I can still alter your coveralls later though. I will finally make proposal next week, so two each, 12 pc. ok!?

love the purple color! ... those zipper pockets look good too.
pelle and i often use coveralls - BUT i feel like the danger of them is that it might look too prisony while we're inside. what about having different colored pants/shorts/overalls and shirts/sweatshirts/jackets/vests? that orange and purple would be a great combo.
what about some overalls, that have zippered legs, so you could turn them into shorts!
but it might be just as effective if we all wear different combinations of the same clothes.... still uniform enough, but also not prison-ish.
what do others think?

The sooner we get them the more individual they will become (you can have zippers Doug!).
It's seems too difficult to get everybody's ideas on an individual uniform and then find all these combinations. This will take too long. And we in the Flatland sculpture will look more coherent if we with our color look like a group (at first sight). The sculpture itself will get more attention also.

Hello from Mexico - sorry im a little offline..
But i think the suits look really nice and comfortable..it is gonna be pretty hot though, donçt you think. Maybe im just thinking this because im here in Mexico where it is sun is burning burning..I think also the red is nice..

Looking over the web page mentioned by Maria just above I find the red/purple is not offered. Most people like that one, but I have a suggestion. I think 2 colors is just as good as one, if they are distinct, and I think it might be nice to try: each of us get one of each of the orange and the red/purple. Then perhaps we can swap partsbetween the two, like cut both your suits at the waiste and sew them back together, or switch sleeves, or one sleeve. Doug says shorts? why not mix up the lower parts.
I think the dominant color scheme of purple and orange will still make us look like a group, but inserts a little more individuality. And I think it will be amusing. And we definitely won't look like prisoners.
I don't think we will be hot in this building at this time of year. If it gets hot, we can cut off sleeves and make shorts out of one of our suits.
Sizes: the number is your widest chest measurment. I suggest erring on the large side, for comfort while climbing. And we can make suits smaller, but we can't make them bigger (easily. Actually Doug can do nearly anything). I think Doug will not be happy in the 38, but he is sort of odd, so one can't be certain.
If we are going to do a lot of alterations, like swapping parts, we need to dig up a sewing machine besides Big Red. Probably can.
So this is my suggestion: Each Flatian gets 2 suits, one red/purple and one orange. Then we make some changes in them. Then too we can tell if you are changing your clothes very often without using our noses.
Can we get everyone's opinion soon so maria can get moving?

hello, thank you for arranging such great suits. i have a particular love of the orange with the underpants outside. that way we do not need to wash the undergarments!

Today i just founded two nice blue things to where in front of your suit when cooking with pockets also (i dont know what it is called in english). I thought now im in charge off cooking plan, i bye them...

hello! I think two suits are good,, The modifications suggested is fun... imagine what zip's would do as well. yes, we will need a sewing machine even bigger then "big red". Nice colors. size Large for me, yep!

The orange suits have arrived. Take a look! I washed them all and they are very comfortable and not as stiff anymore. I got the various sizes but before I can make changes you have to try them on and decide which one fits who. So by the time we get together let's start with the different designs. In the meantime let's share some ideas. We can think about a logo, our names, more pockets, short sleeves/legs, zippers, belts, shoulderpads ... I will look around for simple/cheap foot wear. Looking forward to seeing all of us in red and orange!

I for one am very fussy about my footwear and I would prefer to wear my own shoes. Also, that would save a lot of money!

Actually I agree that wearing matching shoes will not be very important. The pants are long. So everone should bring/wear whatever footwear they feel good in. Especially when climbing ladders a lot there is no point in buying cheap slippers for style reasons only...
Today when I went to the Sculpture Center with Ward it was a little chilly in the space. I would imagine we will all wear undergarments underneath, the uniforms are like a jeans jacket on the upper body. As we won't move around a lot and it will not be hot there we will get away with doing the laundry twice during our stay. Does that sound reasonable to everybody?
